The first place we decided to visit was Saint Isaac’s Cathedral Исаакиевский собор. It is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city and one of the highest cathedrals in the world. Russian/Eng/Nat Saturday marks the first anniversary of the murder of Galina Starovoitova, a liberal reformer who represented St. Petersburg in the Russian State Duma. Her death came as a shock to Russians, who admired and respected her. She was considered a bright light, uncorrupted and unhindered by the dirty world of Russian politics. St. Petersburg, the former capital of Tsarist Russia, is a city famous for its architectural and historical treasures. Throughout its history it has been known as "Russia's crown jewel," the capital of culture, and the "Venice of the North." More recently, though, it has gained a new, less appealing reputation. Its romantic setting has become the backdrop for a series of violent, high profile murders, earning it the new title: "Russia's Capital of Crime." Around sixty thousand crimes are committed each year in St. Petersburg. More than half of those are violent in nature, involving firearms and killings. Murder has become routine here. For those reporting on the city's life of crime, there are worrying implications for the whole of Russia. Where St. Petersburg leads, the rest of the country usually follows. SOUNDBITE: (English) "St. Petersburg usually sets the tone for Russia, for better or for worse. It set the tone in 1917 when the Bolsheviks took power. In the late '80's and early '90's it was the cradle of the democratic revolution, all that started in Petersburg, not in Moscow. Now what we are seeing in Petersburg, this criminal revolution." SUPER CAPTION: Brian Whitmore, reporter, St. Petersburg Times One year ago today, State Duma deputy, Galina Starovoitova, was murdered; gunned down on the stairs of her apartment building. She was one of the victims of the almost continuous sweep of contract murders that have plagued the city. Starovoitova was one of the founders of Russia's liberal opposition, and her murder shocked the country. Many saw her as a martyr to democratic ideals. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "I do not have any doubt that her murder was and ordered killing directly connected with her political life and with her participation in the elections to the city administration." SUPER CAPTION: Anatoly Sobchak, former mayor of St. Petersburg In the months following the murders, the city's law enforcement agencies began a crackdown on organised crime, arresting many of the city's most notorious gangsters and uncovering warehouses of explosives and arms. Despite their efforts, Starovoitova's killers have never been found. Amidst the haunting beauty of St. Petersburg, crime and corruption rule. Life is cheap here. Residents must wonder if their city's reputation can ever be rescued and the glamour of its former image restored. I spent a few days there checking out the fantastic art collections and museums the city has to offer. The town is massive and I didn't get to see everything I wanted to. In the film I show inside the winter palace, the most beautiful church i've ever seen plus some interactions with some nice Russian girls on their way to a disco.

Driving in Saint Petersburg, Russia In this video I'm driving Skoda Octavia A7 in Saint Petersburg. I used advocam fd8 gold das cam to record this video. Saint Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia. It is politically incorporated as a federal subject (a federal city). It is located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. In 1914 the name of the city was changed from Saint Petersburg to Petrograd (Russian: Петрогра́д; IPA: [pʲɪtrɐˈgrat]), in 1924 to Leningrad (Russian: Ленингра́д; IPA: [lʲɪnʲɪnˈgrat]), and in 1991, back to Saint Petersburg. In Russian literature, informal documents, and discourse, the word "Saint" is usually omitted, leaving "Petersburg". In casual conversation Russians may drop the "burg" as well, referring to it as "Peter": Russian: Питер (Piter). Tsar Peter the Great founded Saint Petersburg on May 27 [O.S. 16] 1703. Between 1713–1728 and 1732–1918 Saint Petersburg functioned as the imperial capital of Russia. In 1918 the central government bodies moved from Saint Petersburg (then named Petrograd) to Moscow. It is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, with 5 million inhabitants (2012), and the fourth most populated federal subject. Saint Petersburg is a major European cultural center, and also an important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. Saint Petersburg is often[quantify] described as the most Westernized city of Russia, as well as its cultural capital. It is the northernmost city in the world with a population of over one million. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Petersburg is home to The Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world. A large number of foreign consulates, international corporations, banks, and businesses have offices in Saint Petersburg.

Saint Petersburg in one day. Russia Hi guys! It was a very spontaneous little trip to the cultural capital of Russia. This is a second-most populous city with a population nearly 7 million people. Just compare in Moscow there are around 16 million. I have never been in this city though my friends were there several times. I like St. Petersburg, in Russian it’s called Санкт –Петербург, Петербург or we just say Питер. The first place we decided to visit was Saint Isaac’s Cathedral Исаакиевский собор. It is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city and one of the highest cathedrals in the world. The most highest is Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, I mentioned about this one in my previous video. https://youtu.be/9RCTK5YGRVs Check it out! We went by The State Hermitage Museum (in Russian we say ЭРМИТАЖ) The second place was The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Russian: Церковь Спаса на Крови) is one of the main sights of St. Petersburg. This church looks like St Basil’s cathedral on Red Square( Собор Василия Блаженного на Красной площади). The video about this one is here https://youtu.be/ksSWVa236eQ . Watch it! The third place was the main and the biggest church in Petersburg Kazan Cathedral (Казанский собор). TO sum up, Peter is a unique city which I recommend to visit! Travel video about destination St Petersburg in Russia. In 1703, Tsar Peter the Great founded St. Petersburg in the swampy delta mouth of the Neva River. It became Russia’s capital city and remained so until 1918 when Lenin and his revolutionary Bolshevik government moved to Moscow. Today, it is a living monument to the lives and times of Russia’s Imperial Tsars. The Winter Palace contains Russia’s largest museum, The Hermitage, which houses more than 2.5 million exhibits. Since Peter the Great, Russian rulers purchased many major works of art, but it was Catherine The Great who acquired complete collections from the auction houses of Europe. The Admiralty, with its needle-shaped, gold-plated tower, is one of the city’s most famous landmarks, its grand architecture depicting the emergence of Russia as a naval power. The marvelous Saint Isaac's Cathedral has the third largest dome in the world. Twenty-four thousand tree stumps were used for its foundations, and it can accommodate a congregation of 14,000.The Peter And Paul Cathedral was the burial place of the Tsars, and it contains the marble coffin of Peter the Great. The most colorful church in Russia is the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral which was built on the orders of Tsar Alexander III on land where, in 1881, his father, Alexander II, had been killed by a bomb planted by a revolutionary group.Russian Baroque and Russian Classicism were established in St. Petersburg, a city of monumental events, outstanding architecture and an Imperial metropolis on the grand scale.

St. Petersburg REGAINS as RUSSIAN NAVAL CAPITAL "NAVY HEADQUARTERS moves to PETERSBURG" Saint-Petersburg, Russia October 31, 2012 -Video from RIA Novosti (Видео с Российское агентство международных новостей) Russian naval officers took part in a parade on Isaac's Square in central St. Petersburg on Wednesday. The ceremony was dedicated to the relocation of the naval forces' headquarters from Moscow to the Admiralty building in St. Petersburg. The structure, which dates back to 1738 and served as the headquarters of the Imperial Russian Navy and the early Soviet Navy, is one of the city's main architectural landmarks. The relocation to St. Petersburg, the birthplace of the Russian fleet, is seen as a move to bring the Navy back to its roots. 1. Music: Brait - On The Way e-mail: sergey_tatarinov@mail.ru https://vk.com/sergey.tatarinov https://www.facebook.com/S.M.Tatarinov This video is about one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with many beautiful monuments of history, culture and architecture. St. Petersburg was the official capital of the Russia Empire and now a day this the informal northern capital of Russian Federation. There are lots to see In St. Petersburg: white nights, lots of rivers and canals, embankments and avenues, bridges that can open (the most famous of them is the Palace bridge), residence of the Russian emperors. Their Palaces and Park ensembles are considered be one of the most beautiful in Europe, among them: Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo, the Winter and the Catherine Palace with world famous amber room, Gatchina Palace, Mikhailovsky castle and many others. The world-famous Mariinsky theatre, Peterhof (Russian Versailles), the Church "Savior on blood", the Winter Palace and Palace square, and much more. In 1941-1943 St. Petersburg was besieged fascist troops and had 872 days of the blockade. 1 million inhabitants and soldiers died in occupation and in battles for liberation. St. Petersburg was destroyed, but wasn't giving up no matter what. January 27, 1944 the blockade was lifted. Now, nothing but the memory of Russians recalls the enormous damage inflicted by German troops. Today, the city is in excellent condition and is one of the 10 most popular cities among tourists from all over the world due to its grandeur and beauty. That's why I called this video "St. Petersburg The Magnificent". Welcome to Saint Petersburg! #Timelapse #TimelapseSaintPetersburg #Питер
